Jay’s Handy Tips
Tip 1
Winter Watering
For new lawns planted in winter follow this watering schedule –
- 0-7 days: Use 10 minutes (5mm), once every day in the morning.
- 8-20 days: Use 10 minutes (5mm) once every second day in the morning.
- 21-60 days: Use 10 minutes (5mm) once every third day in the morning.
- If it rains remember to turn any reticulation system off. Too much water and not enough sun can rot your grass.
-
Fertlise your lawn Spring and just before Winter and Summer.
Tip 2
Gutter Cleaning
Clean gutters about March every year to avoid water damage out and inside of your home. If you think a few leaves and twigs in your gutters are harmless, think again. Regular gutter cleaning is the single most important key factor to avoiding major and expensive home repairs. Overflowing gutters can cause ceiling leaks, rotting timbers and undermine footings.
Tip 3
Lawn Mowing
When lawn mowing, doing the edges first and the whipper snipping then when you mow, the mower picks up all the lawn clippings.
Tip 4
Jay’s main policy
Always measure twice and cut once, and it’s worth saying again – measure twice and cut once.
Tip 5
Make Your Own Sprinkler
A quick and easy instant sprinkler if ever you need one can be made form a 2 litre plastic cool drink bottle. Puncture some fine holes on one side only of the bottle, add a hose coupling to the neck end of the bottle and attach your hose – simple and effective instant watering, as many as you need and cheap as chips.
